Girolamo // Shopping // Case Study

September 30, 2015

Ciao WordPress,

It’s been a few days wordpress! Yes, when I am not travelling, I am learning. In the midst of learning my financial a-b-cs and trying to get online assignments done + group work finished, I’ve also been able to successfully wind down here in Milan.

I always (always = every time I’m on the tram / at Duomo / in school), ALWAYS cherish the opportunity I’ve been given to study here. Everyday, I like to believe that I’m a local commuting to school. (Teehee)
The campus is a capesize tinier than UCSD which is so peculiar considering I’m used to taking 30 minutes to walk from one lecture hall to another. We only have two buildings with classrooms + a small library. The library is puny compared to UCSD’s famous and somewhat infamous (all nighter infamous) Geisel. Study space is purely impossible to find here because Bocconi students take their studies seriously! Everybody is focused and highlighting the crap out of their books! Italians (Bocconi Students) are models AND studious. I like being in such a studious environment so I really don’t mind. 😀 What I DO mind is the smoke. I really can’t handle/stand it. Culture shock problems….

Crazy Oktoberfest // Munich

September 25, 2015

Gutentag WordPress,

I just experienced a historical point in my life everybody! I experienced Oktoberfest in Munich and came back to Milan all within the past two days. How was this possible? ESN, the international student group at Bocconi, organized night buses to Germany so that we could celebrate this festivity at a low cost + short period of time.

Oktoberfest is equivalent (in my opinion) to a county fair with huge beer tents and high quality rides. Basically, county fair x one thousand times the craziness and quality.

Munich was definitely chillier than Milan so a scarf was a must and my furry rain-boots were a double must. I can’t believe winter is right around the corner already. I need more coats + gloves + warm attire. (Bring them over Christinaaaa D: ahaha) I didn’t purchase the 50-70 euro Oktoberfest attire that other people bought. It looked cute, but it wouldn’t have looked good on me anyways :p aha.

The first and only beer tent we went into was impressive. It’s interesting to think they built such sturdy “tents” (more like buildings) for this event. We sat with a few Germans who work at Volkswagen from Hamburg and were sandwiched by two crazy Italian groups. We luckily got a table right away and I slowly drank what I think was 1.5 steins (liters) of beer. AIYA. It too much for me because I felt so sick afterwards. I definitely exceeded my limits, but I’m glad the sickness took a while to sink in because I enjoyed my drunk-ness.

 Some crazy stories I’ve heard:

A trip on the Vespa // Date with Filippo!

September 25, 2015

Ciao WordPress,

Summary of Today:
1. Realization of Oysho (the softest store ever)
2. Class
3. A’pertivo with Filippo
4. A ride on the Vespa around Milan ❤

Details of Today:
The air was crisp as I ran across my usual route behind the dorms this morning. Blue skies caught me off guard when I assumed I’d be waking up to another day of stormy weather. I guess it’s a great way to celebrate the FIRST DAY OF AUTUMN!

Italian Police Station // Permit of Stay // Rain

September 23, 2015

Dear WordPress,

Californian girl Seira does not check the weather forecast
Californian girl Seira decides to wear sandals and a thin flannel to school.
Californian girl Seira forgets her passport picture at home for the Police Station appointment.

Great.
My appointment to finalize my “Permit of Stay” paperwork at the Police Station was at 12:05pm today. After my 8:45am class (Corporate Finance), I skipped my Financial Markets and Institutions class to head over to the police station super early with Amanda & Stefanie so they could make their earlier appointment time.

I really dislike the wind+rain combination because that’s when all umbrellas go ham. My 3 euro umbrella (of course) did not survive this storm so I basically bared the rain trusting my immune system to take care of me. I saw a couple of sacrificed umbrella scraps on the street (poor umbrellas).

Milan Fashion Week // Opening day

September 22, 2015

Ciao WordPress,

Karma
Karma got the best of me today. I joined the tripping club when I made the most dramatic fall onto my hands and face during my run this morning. It was pretty funny. I dropped my phone and my earphones fell out of my ear-holes. I have a bruise on my hip + miniature cuts on my fingers. Looking back, a lot of people have tripped in front of me and I laughed like crazy each time (evil Seira).

School
I squeezed my way past all the Italian smokers just to find out my Management Accounting class was cancelled due to who-knows-what. I don’t understand how other students knew because we got no notification! Peculiar Italian school systems are confusing us clueless Americans. Tsk tsk.

Having no class meant lining up to get Oktoberfest with ESN (The International Student Activity Group) tickets first! We successfully got our spots to go to Munich for Oktoberfest, the largest beer festival in Germany! When else are we going to get to go to this event?! (I’m going for the pretzels LOL.)

Verona // Juliet, horsemeat, and love.

September 21, 2015

Ciao WordPress,

Seira skipped school because she skimmed and studied on Sunday. (I tried alliterating ahaha)

I actually didn’t skip school though. Luckily, my planner panned itself out so that I have no classes on Mondays and Fridays. I swear I didn’t begin picking classes based on the schedule! Fortunately, Jessica found 7 euro roundtrip bus tickets for a day trip to Verona, the city of love. We met to catch a 6:50am bus to the bus station on the north western side of Milan.

Flix Bus is a low cost bus operator that takes you to various destinations across Europe. I totally recommend this bus because it was clean and had outlets. One complaint was that they claimed they had free wifi, but it had very poor connection so I couldn’t take advantage of it. Also, the short two hour ride could have made it seem more relaxing than if it were a 5 hour ride.

Regardless, we got there on time and started our morning enjoying being lost at the train station and feeling drizzles of rain fall onto our faces.

Jessica and I are positive travelers so we kept on saying “Yeah it’s totally fine!” .. and actually, it was fine! The cloudy, gloomy day made a 180 degree turn for the better. From tripping on our faces, feeling rain drops, losing data, and getting lost, we were able to find a cute plaza, see some breathtaking scenery/architecture, try some authentic Veronese meals and desserts, and have a girl’s day out!

Cinque Terre // Day two

September 19, 2015

Buongiorno WordPress!

Another day in Cinque Terre and this time, we knew what was up ^^. We bought our 12 euro all day train ride + hiking trail access ticket to hike from Monterosso to Vernazza (5th to 4th village) and we were pro-Cinque Terre venturists (lol not really).

Cinque Terre is known for these foods:

  1. Pesto
  2. Seafood
  3. Focaccia
  4. Sciacchetra (Dessert wine)

//There’s probably more, but those are the few that I heard/tasted!

The hostel breakfast was 4 euros with yogurt, cappuccino, focaccia, juice, and nutella toast. Totally ready to seize the day!
